As we enter into the season of Lent I wonder what you are doing to mark this time? Giving something up – allowing more time to read and think? Perhaps giving yourself space to think what does it mean to lead the abundant life that Jesus said he came to give (John 10:10) – I wonder what are the things, behaviours, attitudes and habits that get in the way? What is it that holds me back from living that abundant life? Are there things that I need to let go of – are there parts of my life I need to bring before God in prayers throughout Lent and allow God to speak to me - to guide me - to correct me.
As part of our worship over the last six months we have focused on This Time Tomorrow. This is where we use a time in some services where we interview a member of the congregation about what they will be doing this time tomorrow.
In recent weeks we have been in the midst of various storms, bringing strong winds and a large amount of rain. As I look around the garden, I am surprised at what has fallen victim to the wind and what has survived. Often, a somewhat weak looking item has survived, where what appears to be a more substantial structure may have succumb to the storms.
Earlier in January I had the privilege to attend the licensing of the Revd Paul Clarke as the Rector of the Walton and Trimley benefice. It was a joyous occasion to see Paul being formally licensed in the role and to pray for him and the benefice as they begin their ministry together. It was also an occasion where I was able to meet with colleagues and it was special meet up with the vicar who helped train both Paul and me when we were in curacy. It was good to share stories about the past and discuss hopes for the future.
