We are delighted you are considering Christening for your child and look forward to talking with you and welcoming you and your child.

Your child is precious to you and precious to God. You want the very best for them, and so does God. You want them to make right choices in life, for themselves and for others.

A christening is just the beginning of this and so much more.

Over the years to come, it’s a journey you’ll share together with your child by:
• Being there for your child to talk to about the bigger questions of life – questions about hope, faith and love.
• Praying for your child through the ups and downs of their faith journey.
• Showing them practically how to make those good choices in life.
• Helping them to learn more about their Christian faith, through their church and in other ways.

So it’s a commitment to start as you mean to go on.

What is the role of Godparents?
Godparents, along with parents, make promises on behalf of the child. Look to choose Godparents who will nurture the faith of your child and pray for them regularly as they grow older. Godparents should have been baptised themselves. Most children have three or four Godparents.

What is the difference between Christening and Baptism?
There is no difference. The words are used in an interchangeable way.

When do Christenings take place?
In Old Felixstowe Parish Christenings normally take place during our 10:30 morning service, though in some circumstances we may hold the service in the afternoon

Who can be Christened in Old Felixstowe?
You are entitled to be christened in the parish in which you live, however in discussion with the vicar it may be possible to be christened if you do not live in the parish.
Christening or baptism is not just for children. If you are an adult and would like to know more about baptism, please contact Rev Chris.
